An exquisite antique 19th century Southeast Asia Bronze sculpture of a Sakyamuni Buddha, stylistically and iconographically rendered in the traditional Kampaeng Phet style of northern Thailand, depicted seated in the attitude of meditation on an elaborate scrolled three point pedestal. The figure was beautifully modeled with elegant proportion and great aestheic appeal, measuring 11.50 inches (29.21cm) in height.
    Description:
Seated in the 'Virasana' posture, with one leg atop the sole of the other foot. The left hand rest palm open on his lap while the right hand forms the 'Bhumisparsa' mudra, or Calling the Earth to Witness, gesture. The image is depicted in a rather tall slim profile, wearing a long monastic robe in the 'Open Mode' diagonally over the left shoulder, leaving the right shoulder and breast uncovered, with the end fold of the robe draped over his shoulder down to his navel, and marked with a square edge. The gentle face with down cast expression bears an ovoid shape, ridged eyebrows curve like a bow above a prominent nose, eye open with incised pupils, and well shaped mouth with an insipid smile, is double outlined as if framed by a second set of lips. The head covered in large pin curls, whorled to the right, surmounted by a domed 'Ushnisha' and crowned with a tall flame-like radiance finial.
