    Title:
Khmer Bronze Multi-arm Deity Shiva Ardhaparyanka, Angkor Wat 'Bayon' Style. Cambodia.
    Overview:
A superb Khmer Multi-armed Male Deity Figure of 'Shiva', stylistically and iconographically executed in traditional 'Bayon' style, from Khmer mythology. The figure is elegantly modeled with characteristics linked to Khmer statuary of the period, and demonstrates the regional style of an era who's art and culture was once under the rule of the Khmer Empire for several centuries, and is distinguished here by the exquisite craftsmanship, fluidity, and charming naturalism in which the figure possesses. The statue measures 31.0 inches (78.74cm) in height.
    Description:
Extremely rare bronze Khmer multi-armed Male Deity figure of Shiva, depicted standing in a Dance pose on a lotus leaf base, originally discovered in the Buriram Province of northeastern present day Thailand, once the central region of the Khmer Empire.
    XXX
The figure is superbly executed in traditional 'Bayon' fashion, standing with his legs in the 'Ardhaparyanka' position, a common posture for tantric deities and celestial dancers. The image radiates a powerful blend of calm and restrained inner energy, standing perfectly balanced on one foot in an exaggerated position, shown with 10 arms outstretched in an arc about him, while his hands displaying the 'Vitarka' mudra, a teaching gesture.
    XXX
Unclothed above the waist the figure is beautifully modeled with a jeweled necklace, draped in floral pendants. He wears a short sampot hung low about the midriff, complimented by an ornate central panel elegantly draped in a stylish fish-tail fashion.  At the reverse is a similar motif, adorned with a large rosette.
    XXX
His face is square with Khmer features of thick lips, ridged nose, strong eyebrows, wide open eyes, and pendulous earlobes with Khmer style earring pendants. The head is covered in tightly braided hair, enhanced by a conical-shaped topknot, enclosed by an interconnected diadem crown. At the back of the head vertical braids of hair are woven down to the nap of the neck.
    XXX
Lost wax cast, with a superbly aged patina, revealing a mixture of surface encrustations and malachite, along with embedded soil deposits from the environment in which it was maintained. The piece is in excellent condition, unaltered in any way, and extremely well modelled.
