    Description

    A superb antique gilt-bronze figure of Buddha from Southeast Asia. The piece is in excellent condition, with no visible damage. The measures: height - 17.3 cm / 9.8 cm across the base.
    The Buddha sitting in Mara Vijaya posture (also known as ''calling the earth to witness'') on a base with legs crossed. Top of the head is a stupa-shaped ''flame'' or called usnisa, symbol of the realization of Nirvana or indicative of supreme knowledge.

    Bhumisparsa Mudra – the Buddha in the act of touching the Earth with his right hand soliciting the Earth Goddess to witness the truth of his Enlightenment. The Thais refer to such posture as ''Sa dung Mara'' or also Mara Vijaya Mudra depicting the right hand touching over the foreleg, the finger pointing down-ward to the earth, the left hand lying on the lap of crossed-legs.
